Genfab

sold to Employee Ownership Trust

INDUSTRY

Laser Cutting, Press Work & Fabrication Specialist

Avondale are pleased to have advised on the successful sale of Genfab Limited, one of the best-regarded laser cutting, press work and fabrication specialists, to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).

Established in 1997 with a vision to deliver the highest standards of metal workmanship, Genfab has grown into a market leader, offering multi-disciplinary services and some of the shortest lead times in the industry. Today, the business serves over 150 customers and employs more than 25 skilled professionals.

Genfab’s success has been driven by continuous reinvestment in the latest machinery, equipment, and training – ensuring technological excellence, expanding service capabilities, and meeting the evolving needs of a growing client base.

When exploring the right exit strategy, founders Darrell Charlesworth and John Shaw identified employee ownership as the ideal solution. This approach rewards the team, safeguards the company’s strong ethos of quality and customer focus, and provides a clear path for John’s retirement and Darrell’s planned succession and eventual exit.

The transaction was completed at full commercial value, with Avondale managing the entire process – from feasibility analysis, valuation and financing to HMRC clearance, legal structuring, and assistance with trustee setup. The EOT was carefully designed to uphold Genfab’s core values while laying a strong foundation for continued growth and long-term success.

Our EOT sale, managed under Avondale Corporate, has been a long and complex process, but Sally and Bianka have made it feel remarkably smooth. Their professionalism, deep knowledge, and consistent support have been invaluable every step of the way. We’re truly grateful for their guidance and couldn’t have asked for a better team to help us through this journey.
