Established in 1983, Gateway Computing was a provider of electronic document management systems for the UK health sector. The company’s software suite was designed specifically for the NHS.
Having worked closely with the NHS for many years, the owners of Gateway Computing felt that the time was right to seek a more relaxed pace of life and to pursue other interests. With an annual turnover of £3.6m and strong projected future growth, the owners were keen to secure maximum value for the business, whilst also ensuring the buyer was a good fit for Gateway.
Avondale were instructed to facilitate the sale. As part of the process Avondale appointed a senior consulting team of researchers and marketing specialists to manage Gateway’s sale and to achieve a maximum sale value for the company. Through detailed research of the market place and the use of strategic marketing initiatives, Avondale was able to create a short list of several suitable buyers. Avondale’s team led a series of face-to-face meetings, resulting in several offers.
With various bids on the table, Gateway’s owners had their pick of buyers. Avondale negotiated further with the sellers’ top choice, Civica UK Ltd, and a deal was reached that met the full pre-agreed value. Already operating in the marketplace, Civica could promise Gateway – and its employees – future growth and strong leadership.
