Based in the South West of England, Eatons Patisserie was a leading manufacturer of high-quality handmade frozen desserts.
After several successful years, Eatons Patisserie’s majority shareholders felt the time was right to seek an exit from the business, and approached Avondale with the instruction to find a suitable buyer. Avondale undertook an in-depth examination of the business from which they could construct an appropriate sale strategy.
On analysis, Avondale quickly realised that Eatons Patisserie had a complex corporate structure in place, which had the potential to dissuade potential acquirers. As a result, Avondale’s strategy team advised on several changes to the structure of the business, which could be introduced with relative ease. Once implemented, Avondale began marketing the company to potential acquirers.
A buyer was ultimately selected from Avondale’s extended network of professional contacts – a management buy-in (MBI) candidate working with the support of financial backers. Despite having no previous sector experience, the individual had a strong understanding of the food and beverage industry and the opportunities it presented. Post-acquisition, Eatons Patisserie continues to strengthen, while the vendors have been able to explore new ventures from a robust financial position.
